About the Trainer
Cathy Press has over 20 years experience as a therapist and for much of this time has worked within the arena of domestic and sexual violence & abuse. Cathy is an MBACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, as well as being registered with the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors, UKRC, a Register of Independent Counsellors.
Cathy Press and Awareness Matters Ltd run workshops and training for multi-agency professionals, counsellors/psychotherapists, from both statutory and voluntary organisations on issues related to domestic violence & abuse, both in the UK and internationally. All training is available.
As well as being the sole trainer for Escape the Trap, Cathy is also one of the UK trainers for a relatively new and innovative Australian programme called Who’s in Charge? which is for parents and carers who experience child to parent violence and abuse. Cathy also trains facilitators to run the Freedom Programme developed by Pat Craven.
For 15 years Cathy has been Chair of the charity Compassion – primarily addressing domestic abuse in South Suffolk. During this time Cathy developed ‘Survivor’s Stories’ DVD, a training tool and resource for issues related to domestic violence and abuse which has sold nationally and internationally and is used by agencies as far afield as Australia! Compassion has also created six commercial length films addressing teenage relationship abuse made entirely by young people.
Cathy is an experienced group facilitator running therapeutic group work for survivors of domestic abuse and provides clinical group supervision for teams of facilitators and therapists. Cathy was Adult Therapeutic Services Manager for Southend Women’s Aid and latterly, SOS Domestic Abuse Projects until December 2010. More recently, Cathy held the commissioned post of Counselling Services Manager for Lighthouse Women’s Aid, Ipswich.
